EasyJet Wins Parliament Airline Deal after Handing MPs Free Flights

Members won't have to join notorious race for unallocated seats

EasyJet Wins Parliament Airline Deal after Handing MPs Free Flights.

EASYJET has done a deal with MPs and members of the House of Lords to fly Britain's politicians around Europe.

The budget airline, usually known for its no-frills approach, handed 80 MPs free flights last year, when the members were keen to head back to the capital during the London riots.

There is no suggestion of a direct link between the free flights and the latest deal.

EasyJet will now join other airlines on the approved-list for the tens of thousands of flights taken by lawmakers each year.

“We know that many MPs, Peers and Government ministers already fly with easyJet," said Carolyn McCall, EasyJet CEO.

"This deal will make it easier and more cost effective than ever before. We are sure they will vote with their feet and travel with easyJet across Europe.”

Luckily for the honourables and right honourables, earlier this month easyJet decided to abandon its unallocated seating policy, which sometimes led to unseemly bundles at the departure gate.

No names, no pack-drill, but McCall said that "customers" had asked the airline to bring in allocated seating.

Possibly the thinking was that constituents would have too much fun elbowing their MPs aside, or maybe politicians were scared they'd lose their seat if it came to a passenger vote.
